Cosplay Invades Bulacan

Posted on August 30th, 2010 by peashooter guy

A lot of people were asking: “What’s the difference between the Cyberzone Cosplay Tour and Cyber Geeks?” The answer was fairly simple. Cyber Geeks is the event for SM Malls that don’t have their Cyberzone sections. In order to launch the cosplay events in said malls (ex. SM Marilao, SM Baliwag and SM Valenzuela), they renamed the event as “Cyber Geeks”.

Day 1 of Invasion: SM Marilao

August 28, 2010

Personally, I expected only a few people attending the event, since I assumed that Bulakeños weren’t really interested in cosplaying, having a notion that cosplayers were “weirdos”. Another reason would be the conflicting schedules for the Cyberzone Cosplay tour Championship in Megamall. But they proved me wrong.

Around 20 cosplayers went to SM Marilao and joined this mini event (it was more than I expected). If you think that they were just city locals, then you were wrong. One cosplayer I talked to came from Parañaque, and all I can say is, “ouch!”.

It turned out to be a fun event in the end. And I was very happy to see how Bulakeños accepted the cosplayers and cheered on them. Also, I was really happy that our friend Gerald Avendaño (our very own Zychez), cosplaying as Lavi of D.Grayman, won two awards: The People’s Choice awards and the Best Male (East) Award.

Day 2 of Invasion: SM Baliwag

August 29, 2010

Due to many invitations, Chylle and I decided to go farther north part of Bulacan to experience Cyber Geeks in SM Baliwag (I came from Meycauayan, Bulacan and I can say that this place is FAR and I think Chylle really want to kill me). Bulacan Cosplay Mania and My Little Prince Shop were there to organize the event.

By the time we got there, the organizers were still preparing but a huge crowd was already waiting.

Again, awesome cosplayers came to join the event and I decided to join to show my support in the event (even the organizers were in costume). I’m very happy to see new cosplayers from the area (Welcome to the cosplay community guys!). Some of them were asking me for tips in strutting in the catwalk (I really don’t know what to say ’cause I’m still an amateur at this ^^;;) .

So for the winners:

2nd Runner-up: Warmachine (Iron Man 2)

1st Runner-up (Tie): Noctis (Final Fantasy XIII: Versus) and Pea-Shooter Zombie (Plants vs Zombie) *cough*

1st Place: Shinkenger Red

So in the end, looks like everyone enjoyed both cosplayers and audience and from looks of the SM management’s smile, I can say that the event was a success. Before we went home, we approached David D’Angelo, head organizer, to congratulate him:

Me: Sir, congratulations for the sucess of your event.

David: Event natin. (Our event.)
