Nike’s Jordan brand is paying homage to one of the best bastketball manga/anime series, Slam Dunk. Series creator Takehiko Inoue found inspiration from NBA’s legendary player, Michael Jordan, during Slam Dunk’s formative years.
“I have been hugely inspired by Michael Jordan’s game, as well as his attitude. It’s been a great honor to have this opportunity,” said Inoue. “At first, he was someone from a different planet — he could stay in the air longer than anybody else. Then I began to see him as someone who always encourages you to set a vision and challenge yourself to achieve it.”
The Slam Dunk collection will feature two new pairs of shoes, a black cap embroidered with the number 10, a red Shohoku #10 shirt, and another Slam Dunk shirt with titular character Hanamichi Sakuragi illustrated in its print. The two pairs will feature Inoue’s illustrations skinned throughout the shoe.

The first pair, the Air Jordan VI, in its iconic red Shohoku color with a number 10 embroidery on the side, bears the art from a few panels of the manga.

The second pair, Jordan Brand’s latest model – the Jordan Super.Fly 3- will contain new sketches of Sakuragi, exclusively made for this limited edition pair. The sketches will not be published in any manga or print media, but is said to be a interpretation of Sakuragi after the manga’s abrupt end around 18 years ago.

The shoeboxes of both pairs will also bear the same art skin printed in the shoes.

The Slam Dunk collection will be released in selected Asian markets on October 18. Worldwide release is on November 1. Pricing to be announced soon.

I really hope Nate Robinson isn’t in the cotsent this year. The little-man shtick was fun the first 14 times, now it’s boring. I just hope the selection committee doesn’t disappoint again. Iguodala is a must, he does creativity without going over the top into theatrics like Dwight. The judging for the dunk cotsent is vomit-inducing awful. Just rank. They either pull the Old-Man-Who’s-Seen-It-All act like Jordan and give out 5 s, or they all stand up and scream and give out 10s before the dunkers even come out of the locker room. Also, if Anthony Morrow isn’t in the 3-point shootout, I’m writing a strongly worded letter.
