Blade & Soul (UPDATE: Commercial release + pricing)

Jun 20, 2012

NCSoft has recently posted the official trailer for their upcoming their hack-and-slash MMORPG Blade & Soul.

UPDATE: Blade & Soul reached a peak of 150,000 simultaneous logins during the OBT period, thus pushing NCSoft to increase their servers to a maximum of 32. The numbers have surpassed that of Aion’s previous record.

Blade & Soul is set to go commercial on June 30, 2012 with a monthly subscription fee of KRW 23,000 or roughly US$20.

The video was released in conjunction with its imminent OBT release, which will begin on June 21, 2012, exclusively to the South Korean region. The trailer also shows the game’s features and aesthetics, apparently constant (albeit with some improvements over the years) with its initial teasers prior to alpha testing. Diverse character appearance and races will be made available in the game. With the video provided, Blade & Soul has a promisingly-fluid combat system that renders block and parry animations with mercurial ease. In addition to a tweaked combat and PVP experience, players can also experience a dynamically-changing dungeon layout, such as falling debris and multiple pathways to the objective.

Pre-OBT phase of Blade & Soul had an initial setup of 5 servers. However, due to the massive number of simultaneous log-ins, NCSoft was forced to increase servers to a maximum of 13 in order to accommodate all players. NCSoft is expecting a larger population come OBT.
