The duo of Shinoda and DTSacluti were at SM North Edsa last December 2, 2012 for Swordplay – A Ruruoni Kenshin Cosplay Competition. Shinoda and DTSacluti both took turns as photographers; DTSacluti was in charge of the video coverage, while Shinoda had again the role as interviewer. The event was organized by the University of the Philippines Anime Manga Enthusiasts, and their manpower was on full force for this endeavor. Swordplay was organized as a promotional event for the Philippine screening of the most-anticipated otaku movie of the year, Rurouni Kenshin. December 2 also marked the advance screening of the said film, with a select number of people rewarded with the bonus of witnessing the movie before anyone else in the Philippines.
The awesome band, Yui for President, graced the event and rocked out some tunes for the spectators and audience. The event also had some games, such as a Pinoy Henyo-style minigame where participants took turns guessing characters, techniques, and events featured in the Ruruoni Kenshin anime and manga. There was also a DJ show featured by Pioneer DJ. The raffle was also an enjoyable treat for the event attendees, as the organizers were literally giving away so many prizes ranging from Pioneer DVD players, water bottles, USBs, T-shirts, and the coveted premiere tickets to the Ruruoni Kenshin live action film.
But of course, the main attraction was the cosplay competition, where there was an open category for all cosplayers and the Ruruoni Kenshin category where contestants took the stage to showcase their adaptations of their favorite characters from the series.
It was an enjoyable event for everyone, and it was capped off by the premiere screening of the much awaited live action flick. Fortunate for Shinoda and DTSacluti, they got the chance to watch the movie for free, and it was really as awesome as the hype that built upon it.
We’d like to thank cosplayer extraordinaire, Ms. Jin Joson, for being so game with the interview, and even sharing a few laughs with us!
