The Road to Asia Cosplay Meet – Philippines
With only two days remaining (June 27) until the Philippine leg of the Asia Cosplay Meet, tensions are high as to who will be the top three representatives for the final leg of the international competition in Singapore. But first, let us take a look at a brief background at the people and workings at ACM-PH as we wait for this Sunday’s event at Philippines Trade and Training Center in Pasay City..
The Asia Cosplay Meet is hosted by the Singapore Cosplay Club, famous for hosting other events such as Cosplay Mania (no, not to be confused with our own Cosplay Mania) which was highlighted as Anime Festival Asia’s cosplay host back in 2008. They are also actively participating as organizers of other prestigious international cosplay events such as the World Cosplay Summit held in Nagoya, Japan. For Asia Cosplay Meet, with other countries such as South Korea, organized by Wonder Cosplay Festival Committee, Malaysia, organized by GameHub, and the Philippines, organized by Holy Ground Productions, we are going to see a growing popularity and trend as cosplay competitions enter the ASEAN grounds.
Spearheaded by Randolf Goss of Holy Ground Productions, the Philippine leg for ACM was planned with cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs as well as other international relations with Singapore to ensure safe passage for our representatives for the finals. Collaborations with other agencies such as our very own Philippine Airlines, broad band companies, and others were dutifully acquired all for accommodating foreign guests and our own contestants for this international event.
Speaking of representatives, we will have a total of 37 preliminary contestants from all over the country vying for the top three slots to represent the Philippines in the finals at Singapore on July 4. They were screened by the Singapore Cosplay Club themselves before the final list of of contestants were finalized. Korea was the first one to hold their preliminaries on May 10 with Malaysia on June 6 showcased their own representatives and showed a glimpse of the tough competition ahead. Here are some video samples from the Korean and Malaysian leg, respectively.
Contestants are required to do a solo skit on stage ranging from a minimum of three (3) minutes up to a maximum of five (5) minutes time. From these 37, ten local judges will screen them further until the top 10 are selected. From these ten contestants, they will move on to the finals for the regional match-up with Japanese visual kei band SuG as the judges to select the top three via live stream straight from Singapore. Some might be familiar with the band as they sung one of the ending credits song for Katekyo Hitman Reborn! titled, Gr8 Story.
Please come and visit this Sunday at the Philippines Trade and Training Center to support your Cosplay representatives!
