UPDATE (October 18, 2013): The University of the Philippines – Anime Manga Enthusiasts has released this official statement regarding 1UP.
To keep things short, UP-AME’s 1UP will be held at the World Trade Center tent next year, February 23.
This confirms all our rumors we’ve gathered (as archived below). Seriously, were we ever wrong? ;D

The University of the Philippines Anime Manga Enthusiasts, also known as UP AME, was founded in November 2000 and was the first ever recognized collegiate anime organization in the Philippines. Composed of full time UP students (and with the help of the organization’s alumni), UP AME has organized some of the best anime and manga conventions in the country. For over 8 years, the friends, family and fans of UP AME have shared in the celebration of our organization’s anniversary and its love for anime and manga by making our past events – Una kAME!, kAME Ulit!, AME Matsuri, AME Gakuensai and AME 8th Avenue, AME no Jidai, UP AME Track 10, and AME Monagatari, huge successes.
EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Our insider, Shinoda, has learned that the tentative date for UP-AME’s 1UP is scheduled for FEBRUARY 23. CONFIRMED.
EXCLUSIVE UPDATE NUMBER 2: In an interview we conducted during Cosplay Mania with Cherry Credits Marketing Manager, Alvin Reyes, he has confirmed that their company and UP-AME are already in talks. It would seem that Cherry Credits might push through as a major sponsor for the upcoming UP-AME 1UP! In a separate interview with UP-AME President Kris Dumlao, she told us that next year’s fair will be bigger and better! The reason for the move was to further prepare for the event. We can also expect the previously-rumored gaming tournaments to become a reality, as the president has stated that there will be activities related to the theme.
Don’t expect a UP-AME event/fair this year. The University of the Philippines – Anime Manga Enthusiasts organization has skipped 2012 in holding their supposed-yearly event.
This doesn’t mean that UP-AME is stopping their widely-anticipated anime event. Instead, the org has decided to move their event to 2013. Dubbed as “UP-AME 1UP,” the organization’s next event will be a gaming-themed one, and will be held February next year (2013). The event will be held once again at the World Trade Center tent in Pasay City, the same place where AME Monogatari was held last year.
A representative from the organization has told Otakultura that they will be seeking out game companies to join in their event. They’re already eyeing Cherry Credits and possibly LevelUp! Games to be part of 1UP. There’s also a possibility of gaming tournaments linked to the event. Mind you, nothing has been set in stone yet, since the event is just in the planning stages.
The rumor of a skipped year for UP-AME’s fair began late July. In a general assembly of the organization held during the same month, the group affirmed the decision of launching the event in 2013 “to start the year right.”
During the Best of Anime 2012, UP-AME’s booth handed out flyers (pictured above) as a teaser for next year’s event.
Stay tuned for more updates here at Otakultura as the story develops!
